Colonial Program

Fall at the Farm Field Trip

Homeschool Colonial Trip

Preparing for Winter

The field trip experience includes 4 hands-on workshops:

  • Food Preservation Colonists spent an extraordinary amount of time preserving food for the winter. Students will learn and participate in those processes, including salting, pickling, drying and jellying.
  • Colonial Animals and Community Animals played an important role in the survival of colonists. Students will learn about the role of chickens, oxen, pigs, and sheep by visiting the many animals at our farm. Colonists survived by supporting each other in a community. Students will learn about the importance of community and family jobs.
  • Colonial Cooking Participants will make a colonial bread and learn about the many ingredients that colonists relied on for cooking. And of course, we will need to sample our colonial breads!
  • Colonial Crops Through hands on activities students will learn about the three main crops. Activities will include pressing apples, shucking corn, and grinding grain.
